Bicycle Choir

is a collective of eight artists (performers, sound artists and musicians) from Berlin.

The choir brings together distinct individuals whose voices blend into a single, resonant whole. If that is possible among seven people, perhaps it’s possible on a larger scale too.
So—yes, let’s.

Inspired by Margaret Cameron’s artistic practice of "performance as philosophy", we asked ourselves: How can we make it possible to become a bicycle choir? Through a practice of attentive listening, we explore various ways of becoming a bicycle choir. "Yes, let’s!" became our compass throughout this collective process. The Fahrradchor (bicycle choir) combines choral vocal improvisation with dynamic choreography, creating moving soundscapes from spoken texts, songs, and vocal clusters. As a somatic sound sculpture, the choir embodies deep connectedness and conveys a sense of freedom. The project also draws attention to the marginalization of cyclists in urban environments. REVIEW: "The performance NAHVERKEHR offers a groundbreaking fusion of art and urban space. Conceived as a “bicycle choir,” it transforms the bicycle from a simple means of transport into a central artistic medium. Sound, movement, and the city are woven together into a living composition that invites audiences to experience familiar spaces in entirely new ways.
The performance unfolds with striking imagery: motionless bodies on the ground as bicycles rattle above them, the rush of air on the skin,
the thrill of a sudden curve. The question "I am here, are you here?" draws everyone into a shared presence that goes beyond mere spectatorship.

What makes NAHVERKEHR exceptional is its constant shifting of form—between concert and choreography, performance and social ritual, seriousness and play. The result is a kaleidoscope of impressions that invite reflection as much as they spark joy. Beyond its artistic innovation, NAHVERKEHR serves as a social space. It addresses the marginalization of cyclists in the urban environment while opening visions of collective transformation and lighter, more sustainable futures.

At its core, NAHVERKEHR is not just a performance but an experience: a resonant space where art and everyday life blur, and where a community of performers and audiences becomes part of a shared, transformative moment." Johanne Timm / choreographer
